Fasting is 99.9% mental, you need to believe in yourself
- Drink a lot of water/tea
- Don’t do anything in the kitchen (stay in your room)
- Take a nap to pass time
- Get out of the house as much as possible (drive somewhere, stay after school, take a walk, go outside, etc.)
- Keep yourself busy
- Be kind to yourself (I say to myself “I know this is hard but you can do it” rather than “omg lose some weight already lazy ass” trust me it helps)
- Recognize that you are hungry, but you simply aren’t eating until your fast is done
- Read a lot
- Don’t take chances to test your willpower just to be safe
- Convince yourself to continue the fast instead of quitting early
- Think about the big picture
- Use a heating pad for bad hunger pangs
- Realize how worth it only one day of fasting is
- It isn’t worth breaking a fast because you will just try again and again
- Remember that you are accomplishing weight loss 1/3 of the time it would take by just eating less
- Realizing that you will probably consider breaking the fast everyday, but a thought doesn’t stop you from continuing the fast
- Tell yourself everyday that you can do it
- Realize that the only thing that could stop you is yourself/mind
- Remember that a craving you have can be satisfied when you are done with the fast, just not at that exact moment
- Learn to lucid dream and eat whatever you want in your dreams (I ate grapes and peanut butter last night in my dream)
- Remember that fasting is not forever
- Keep yourself warm (fasting makes you really cold)
- Take long showers/baths to feel better and pass time
- Work on a project ( I write fanficitons, it takes up hours of time)
- Keep a solid goal in your mind and stick to it (number of days, specific rules for your fast, etc)
- Don’t think about hunger/rumbling stomach, that only makes the hunger worse and more powerful
- Smell candles that are scented like your cravings to beat the urge to eat
- Don’t be around food
- Look at thinspiration
- Watch movies with a celebrity in it that is thin to motivate you
- Keep an optimistic view about the benefits of your fast (only pros, no cons)
- Rest a lot
- Don’t act irritated or “hungry” to avoid suspicion
- Imagine the food you want is expired or covered in mold/maggots
- Drink coffee/tea while watching food videos and pretend your eating
- Eat ice
- Make popsicles out of 0 calorie drinks like powerade zero
- Knit to keep your hands busy and away from food
- Stay out late
- Drink a shot of juice if you really want flavor
- Allow one breath mint for sweet cravings (1-2 cals Tic-Tacs are good because they come in many different flavors)
- Make tea with savory herbs and pretend it’s soup
- Drink flavored sparkling water (ClearAmerican is good and only 68¢. My favorites are Pineapple Coconut and Strawberry-Tastes like soda)
- Smell Food
- Put on lip balm (chapstick) that smells like a craving you have (cupcake and pumpkin pie help me a lot to deal with cravings)
- Go to bed early
- Reward yourself with non-food items everyday you succeed in fasting
- Imagine yourself at your goal weight
- Remind yourself why you are fasting
- Write about everything you want to eat/crave in a journal
- Reflect on how you feel each day in a journal
- Don’t give food power
- Write a motivational quote on your hand so you see it constantly
- Make a bracelet for your fast to remind you of your goals
- Meditate and live in the moment
- If you cannot deal with a craving you have, take one lick of the food and flush it down the toilet immediately after (try to like a small piece of food to avoid wasting it)
- Brush your teeth when you feel like eating
- Pretend that anything you want to eat will taste like a food you hate
- Keep telling yourself that you aren’t hungry and you won’t be as hungry
- Try to stay out of situations that you associate with eating (movies, celebrations, etc.)
- Do whatever you need in order to succeed
